The 2017 Silver Anniversary Festival is now all over after ten days of magnificent speakers and wonderfully varied events.
We are particularly grateful to Festival Patrons William and Caroline Waldegrave for stepping into the breach so magnificently when traffic issues on the infamous A303 threatened the final Friday’s 6.30pm event with cancellation. The Waldegraves gave the audience a personal insight into the beautiful Thenford gardens, belonging to Michael and Anne Heseltine, which were to have been the subject of the talk. This was followed by a succession of entertaining, informative and amusing snippets on subjects which ranged from Patrick O’Brian to Donald Trump, from trousers to courgettes, and from Roy Strong to Labradors. It turned out to be arguably the highlight of the whole Festival!
There were of course many other highlights during the week and, despite a last-minute cancellation and the best efforts of Storm Brian, the Festival proved to be the most successful to date. The Festival organisers would like to thank our speakers, our Friends and sponsors and most of all our wonderful audiences for contributing to this success. We hope to see you all next year.
