With the active support of the Festival Education Committee, Beanstalk is now established in Somerset and is currently active in 25 schools, supporting 150 children. Most of these schools are in the Wells area and in Yeovil, Taunton and Bridgwater, with plans to expand into the coastal areas, Bath & NE Somerset and Swindon this year.
As it is estimated that last year 200,000 children left school in England without reading at the required standard, the need for this kind of support is still great. Beanstalk, with its wonderful team of volunteer reading helpers and other supporters, is working hard to extend its reach, supporting more and more children, and so working magic by helping to transform their lives.
Beanstalk was formally established in the South West in September 2016. To mark the charity’s expansion and its partnership with Wells Festival of Literature, HRH The Duchess of Cornwall, Patron of Beanstalk, visited the Festival, and met many of those involved
