The winning Poems, Short Stories and Crime Novel will be announced.

The Short Story prizes will be presented by the well-known romantic fiction novelist Katie Fforde, after the conclusion of her discussion on The Art of Writing a Short Story (Sunday 12th October at 3.30 pm)

The Crime Novel prize will be presented by local Somerset author Janet Laurence, creator of three crime series including the Darina Lisle and Canaletto stories

Former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion will present the Poetry Prize on Wednesday 15th October at 8.30 pm after his talk on The Customs House (Wednesday 15th October at 7.30 pm)

A Programme for this event containing all the shortlisted poems can be purchased from Wells Museum or at the door on the evening. Purchase of the programme entitles all purchasers to vote for the Festival's Favourite Poet.

Our Prizes

● Poetry and Short Story

First Prize £500, Second Prize £200, Third Prize £100.  In addition there is the Wyvern Prize of £100 for entrants living in the BA, BS, and TA postcodes. 

● Crime Novel (our fastest growing competition!)

The winning entry will be read by a major publisher and by a leading agent.  In addition there will be a cash prize of £100.  The judge may also arrange for an exceptional runner-up entry to be read by an agent or a publisher.
