After nine brilliant, action-packed days, the Wells Festival of Literature is now over for another year.
The Chubb Bulleid marquee in the Bishop’s Palace gardens was packed almost every day for this most successful of Festivals. Our diverse programme, with its wide range of inspiring and entertaining events, proved more popular than ever. We are grateful to the Bishop’s Palace, and to all our generous sponsors, for supporting our aim to promote a love of reading and the written word.
One of the many high points of the 2016 Festival was the visit of the Duchess of Cornwall. The Duchess met local children who are currently being supported by Beanstalk volunteers, and read to them from The Best Bear in All the World, produced to celebrate Winnie-the-Pooh’s 90th birthday. The Duchess also met many of the volunteers whose hard work makes the Festival possible, and presented prizes to some of our competition winners. The sun shone on the Bishop’s Palace for this memorable day, and the visit heralded a wonderful beginning to the end of a wonderful week.
In 2017 WFL will be celebrating its Silver Anniversary. Watch this space…
