2018 Festival: Gets off to a Great Start
October 21 2018The 26th Festival has got off to a great start! David Runciman got the ball rolling with his magnificently delivered talk on how close we are coming to losing our democracy, followed by Sarah Churchwell’s somewhat different, but equally riveting, take on the current situation in America…
This ground-breaking opening night was followed by an equally memorable Saturday featuring Guernica, Old Baggage, Frankenstein and the West Country. Talk of a gay penguin sanctuary and life’s ups and downs on a NHS hospital ward concluded the Festival’s first Saturday, giving a brilliant fore-taste of the variety and quality waiting for us over the next seven days.
We regret having to cancel Anne de Courcy’s lunchtime talk planned for Wednesday 24 October but we have plenty of other brilliant events on offer which are guaranteed not to disappoint. The bar in the Cedars Hall foyer is also open during the Festival and offers a wide range of drinks, as well as delicious soup, sandwiches and snacks at lunchtime at during the weekend.
We are also very grateful to Michael Phelps for offering Festival audiences the use of his field for parking again this year.

It will be nearly 8,000 square feet, featuring a PEP&CO home section. This new location will also have frozen aisles. It is the third Poundland to open in the UK.
