Aged 51, twins Jeanie and Julius still live with their mother, Dot, in rural isolation and poverty. When Dot suddenly dies, the world to which they awake looks even colder, emptier and stranger than before, a situation complicated by their lifetime of seclusion. The twins would do anything to preserve their small sanctuary against the perils of the outside world and, as their mother’s secrets unravel, everything they thought they knew about their lives is put at stake.
This is a story of betrayal and resilience, love and survival. A powerful portrait of existence on the fringes of society, Unsettled Ground explores how it is possible to build a life on broken foundations, to spin light from darkness.
