Writing abut War

Starts at: Tuesday 18 October 4:15 PM
Finishes at: Tuesday 18 October 5:15 PM

It is now 40 years since War Horse was published, and the former Children’s Laureate marks the anniversary by explaining how – and why – he writes about war. The conflict in Ukraine makes the need to talk to young people about war more pressing than ever. Michael tackles the subject in a unique way, ensuring that at heart his stories are about peace, and hope.

His latest book, When Fishes Flew, is full of magic, myth and mystery. It tells the story of Nandi, who travels to Greece to discover, through friendship with an extremely unusual flying fish, the extraordinary story of her great-aunt Elena, an unsung hero of WW2. This inspirational tale of personal discovery, love and belonging is threaded through with the quiet heroism of everyday people.
