2019 Festival: Change of Speaker

We are sorry to report that Peter Hennessy, who was due to speak at a Literary Lunch on Friday 25 October, has had to pull out of the Festival for health reasons. Lord Hennessy was due to discuss his book Winds of Change with Festival Patron William Waldegrave and we are very grateful to Lord Waldegrave who has very kindly agreed to hold the fort and tell us instead about his own recently published work Three Circles into One: Brexit Britain – How did We get Here and What Happens Next?

This forthright new book was only published at the end of last month and has already received outstanding reviews. The Wells audience will have the privilege of being amongst the very first to hear all about it!

Three Circles into OneIn Three Circles Lord Waldegrave is frank about his own ambivalent attitude to the realities of the European Union and foresees that whatever the outcome now there will be disillusionment; ‘it will get worse before it gets better’. He does, however, provide the reader with four possible scenarios for the future and urges a new Britain which accepts its current standing in the world and no longer hankers after its former superpower status.

This promises to be a dynamic and extremely topical event and we look forward to welcoming Lord Waldegrave to Wells on Friday 25 October.
