The 2024 Wells Festival of Literature starts here!

With only a few months left until this year’s Festival gets under way, activity behind the scenes is already evident. For a start, entries are flying into our International Competitions. The closing date for all four categories is 30 June – so get creating as soon as you can. The prize money is extremely generous!

As usual our speakers will offer a rich mix of topics with something to intrigue and entertain everyone. The full programme will be revealed in July but keep an eye on this website as well. You never know when a speaker’s name might slip out!

But perhaps the first tangible sign of the Festival’s approach is that we are delighted to announce that Mike Gunton will be the Guest Speaker at the very first event which takes place on Thursday 11 July.

From finding food in a termite mound right through to overseeing the BBC’s unforgettable Planet Earth series, Mike is behind much of the award-winning natural history programming we all love. He is a senior executive at the BBC Natural History Unit and has been its Creative Director since 2009.
